Cascades: from recycling to ethical fashion!

La Cascaderie has come a long way: the store is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year!

Did you know that Cascades has been making clothing for its employees for a quarter-century? Whether for work or for play, Cascades company clothing is available at our boutique, La Cascaderie, located in Kingsey Falls. And remote “Cascadeurs” from our various units also have the option of using our online store.

It all began with a vision. CEO Alain Lemaire wanted to cultivate a sense of belonging and pride among Cascades employees. Since then, La Cascaderie has come a long way: the store is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year!

Spotlight on eco-friendly design

This year, in keeping with its tradition of being a leader in sustainability, Cascades is offering more eco-friendly clothing than ever before. In an effort to raise awareness of responsible purchasing among employees, the company has increased its purchases of ethical clothing to 25% of the total volume!

Cascades has created an ethical purchasing structure with the goal of encouraging entrepreneurship and up-and-coming Quebec businesses. To this end, we have chosen to work with Quebec companies whose products meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Made in Quebec
  • Recycled
  • Certified organic

.

We also felt that it was necessary to find out more about the designers, their values, their certifications, and where their raw materials come from. So we visited their workshops and conducted interviews to get a clearer picture of the designers and their suppliers.

A number of them won us over! As a result, La Cascaderie now offers clothing from nine fashion designers: Creations Encore, fibrEthik, Musky, Myco Anna, Oöm, Respecterre, Voyou, Louve and Blank. Are there are many out there waiting to be discovered…

A new kind of fashion show

On October 18, the very first Cascades fashion show will take place at the La Gaillarde boutique in Montréal! The inaugural event will showcase the fall line of employee clothing and give those in attendance a chance to meet the designers in person.

.

A number of big names will be putting in an appearance on the catwalk, including Steven Guilbeault, co-founder and spokesperson of Équiterre, François Tremblay, environment columnist for the television show Salut, Bonjour!, as well as Émilie Fournel and Hugues Fournel, Olympic athletes. Cascades CEO Alain Lemaire will also be in attendance. The show will be by invitation only, as spaces are limited due to the size of the venue.

.

Cascades is pleased to support young Quebec entrepreneurs and hopes that our business partners and other large companies will catch on to the rising popularity of ethical clothing. Stay tuned for other fashion projects to be announced in the coming weeks!
