For over 35 years, the Cascades units of Kingsey Falls, Victoriaville and Drummondville have supported Centre-du-Québec Centraide. It’s a reason to be proud of the difference Cascaders make every day in the lives of thousands of people. Centraide is a collective movement of mutual aid with the goal of improving people’s quality of life and building the community with committed citizens!
The organization’s real mission: mobilize the community and collect resources to contribute to the development of communities in solidarity and improve the living conditions of people in vulnerable situations, in partnership with community organizations. “Contributing to Centraide means helping the most vulnerable regain power over their lives. Hard knocks are part of life. They happen to everyone,” affirms Isabelle Dionne, Executive Director of Centre-du-Québec Centraide.
This year, $360,000 was raised for Centre-du-Québec Centraide, $50,000 more than last year! It is important to recognize the ingenuity and proactivity of unit campaign managers, who organized original activities. For example, the team from the Research and Development Centre organized a beer and cheese event and the headquarters team organized an “inequalities dinner” to raise awareness about poverty, not counting the many prize draws and competitions that were organized. New Cascades employees took the opportunity to bake cakes they then sold in the units!
These initiatives would probably not have taken place without the exemplary leadership of management, which lends its support to the cause every year. The executives provided significant support and showed very great generosity by encouraging the employees to solicit their colleagues to collect donations. The figures speak for themselves: Nearly 900 Cascades employees give to Centraide Centre-du-Québec on a weekly basis! The participation rate is 50%—one in every two employees—and the annual average donation per employee is $228.
There are plenty of good reasons to give to Centraide, because the organization prevents social problems and improve the living conditions of the entire population of Centre-du-Québec. In the final analysis, all of society benefits! Unfortunately, poverty and exclusion really exist in our society. Together, it is possible to build a better and more just society!
