The Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau has been one of our most cherished causes for a long time now and is one in which we are increasingly involved. Cascades has been a partner of the Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau since 2005. In an outpouring of generosity again this year, employees and management surpassed last year’s donation, raising $360,000.
When the president pedals for the cause
Did you know that seven dedicated Cascaders (out of a total of 34!) are cycling the 600 km Trek for Hope alongside Pierre Bruneau and Paul Doucet? Among them is Mario Plourde, Cascades President and Chief Executive Officer, who has taken part in the Tour CIBC for 14 years now.
Joining him in the Trek for Hope are Jean Jobin, Benoit Alain, Jacques Dubois, Jérémie Voyer, Mario Sylvain and Rock Moisan.
Other Cascaders are participating in the Solidarity (300 km), Generosity (115 km) and Discovery (50 km) treks, namely Annie Tremblay, Natacha Houde, Normand René, Régis Arsenault and Thierry Trudel.
Hats off to our group of cyclists!
A warm welcome in Kingsey Falls
When the route permits, cyclists are always pleased to stop in Kingsey Falls for a break. This year, Cascaders from the entire village stepped away from their units to form a receiving line to greet the peloton that rode down the main street to Bernard-Lemaire park, where its members were treated to a light snack.
“This was the warmest greeting of the entire tour,” said Mario Plourde. “It was nice to see that when we talk to our employees, they listen and respond to us. I am very touched to see Cascaders getting involved in this cause along with us,” he added.
From father to daughter
Mario Plourde is not only raising the awareness of his co-workers about the cause. He was very proud to see his daughter, Laurence, participating in the Discovery Trek for a second time. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!
Note that since the partnership between Cascades and the Charles-Bruneau foundation began, the company has donated nearly $2.5 M to support research for sick kids.
