10 Easy Ways to Save Water at Home

Quebecers consume on average 386 litres per day! That is a lot of drinking water, and a large part of it is often wasted and goes straight back into the sewer system. Here are a few tips that will help you reduce your daily water consumption:

1. Place an object in your toilet tank that will displace water, so less water will be used to fill the tank or upgrade to a low-flush toilet that consumes only between 4.1 and 6 L of water, instead of 12 L or more for each flush.

2. Install low-flow faucet aerators, which reduce water consumption by one third compared to a standard faucet.

3. Install a WaterSense certified shower head, reducing your consumption by one half.

4. Collect rainwater and use it for watering your plants.

5. Limit your showers to 5 minutes.

6. Minimize rinsing before putting your dishes in the dishwasher.

7. Run the dishwasher only when it is completely full.

8. Minimize rinsing before putting before recyclable items in the bin.

9. Turn off the tap while you brush your teeth.

10. Check for leaks in your faucets and toilets and repair them as needed.

Every drop counts! Have you thought about installing water-saving devices in your home?
