Cascades donates a record sum to United Way Centre-du-Québec

New record for the United Way campaign at Cascades.

Cascades has been actively supporting United Way Centre-du-Québec for over 30 years. Again this year, we set out to exceed expectations—and we did! Cascaders were even more generous this year and set a new record, proving that they are always good for a surprise. They got behind the cause in great numbers and proudly handed over a cheque for $275,000. That’s $8,000 more than in 2012. This donation, the largest ever received by United Way Centre-du-Québec, is the sum of donations made by Cascaders, money raised during special events organized by campaign managers from each of the participating divisions, and a corporate donation.

Generous employees and resourceful campaign managers

Credit for the success of course goes to all our employees, but also to each of the ambassadors, who found innovative ways to collect extra funds. Each campaign manager is free to organize various fundraising activities in their unit. Jeans day is a perennial favourite, but other ideas also bore fruit this year. These included auctions held by new head office employees and company executives in which each of them offered up an original product or service to the highest bidder, draws for gift baskets filled with employee-made products, fifty-fifty raffles, themed lunches and parties and volunteer activities. I challenged myself to two days of living like a person with restricted mobility, in an effort to show that United Way can meet the needs of a wide variety of people. I was surprised by the amount of logistics required for my transportation and realized the extent of the challenge that people with such a disability face every day.

Coming together in aid

All of this makes the United Way campaign a dynamic and unifying event. Community involvement has been part of our values since day one—so much so that the company adopted a social and community objective in its most recent sustainable development plan. Our goal is to have 85% of all units in North America support at least three causes every year. This will guarantee that we support the communities where we have facilities and contribute to the social development of the regions that welcome us.
