Sochi 2014: My Olympic story

Alexandre Bilodeau, double Olympic champion in moguls’ freestyle skiing

It’s already been a few weeks since I got home from Sochi, and only now am I beginning to realize that I’ve reached my long-time goal: I am a two-time Olympic champion. Partners like Cascades have believed in me from the start. Thanks to them, I’ve been able to push my passion for freestyle skiing to the limit.

My first Olympic medal at Vancouver 2010 meant something completely different to me. I was the first athlete in Canadian history to have won a gold medal on Canadian soil. I was like the little boy who grew up to be an astronaut. I dared to dream, and all my hard work finally paid off. At those games, all I wanted to do was bask in the victory and have a good time.

Four years later, after a year of rest in 2011 to refocus on my priorities and three years of pretty intense training, I had quite a different mindset as I embarked on my most recent Olympic experience. Yes, I was going to defend my title, but most of all I was going to have fun. I was surrounded by my brother and the rest of my family, my fiancée and my friends. I wanted to share with them the intensity and excitement of the Games. After that unforgettable day, February 10, I had the chance to make some amazing memories with my loved ones. I was also able to return to Quebec before long to celebrate with the people who hadn’t been able to make the trip but who still played their part in helping me succeed.

Cascades has been a partner since 2001. With its support, my dreams have become a reality. I really see the importance of surrounding myself with the right people—in the end, we owe our successes to the relationships we build.

Happy 50th birthday, Cascades!
