Giving back by giving to the community

Cascades exchanges Christmas trees for a donation to Centraide.

On November 29 and 30, 2014, Cascades attended the Santa Claus Parade in Victoriaville and Sherbrooke to raise funds for Centraide, an organization the Company has been involved with for more than 30 years in the Centre-du-Québec region. The idea was simple, 1 donation = 1 Christmas tree.

A new event in Victoriaville

The Santa Claus Parade was a new initiative in Victoriaville, which hadn’t held an event like it in several years. After setting up in Victoria Park, our gang of Cascaders welcomed families, who were wondering just what Cascades was doing at the Santa Claus Parade. In less than five minutes, our booth was swarming with parents and kids who couldn’t wait to trade in a few dollars for a cardboard Christmas tree!

A tradition in Sherbrooke

Our next destination was downtown Sherbrooke, where we continued our fund-raising activity, exchanging trees for donations. The Sherbrooke parade is a well-established custom that the city honours every year. It’s an event not to be missed!

Thank you to our volunteer Cascaders: Sylvie Laroche and her son Alexandre, David Gravel, René St-Pierre, Florence Côté-Fortin, Jessie Ouimet-Caron, and trucker Luc Michel and his spouse Maryse for getting involved! One thing is certain: the Cascaders were all smiles by the end of the day, having felt they had spread happiness to hundreds of families, who each took a little piece of Cascades home with them.

In 2013, Cascades donated $275 000 to Centraide. This initiative allowed us to raise $2139 which we’ll add to the 2014 donation to be announced in January 2015. Stay tuned!

We need your help!

Cascades is preparing another activity along the same lines as our Christmas tree activity. We’re looking for organizations that recover and/or collect toys for children in need during the holiday season. Do you know of an organization with that mission in your region?
