5 reasons to get involved in the Barter and Trade event

Celebrating five years this year, the Barter and Trade event is an initiative of Cascades and the town of Kingsey Falls as part of Quebec’s waste reduction week (Semaine québécoise de réduction des déchets – SQRD). So here are five good reasons to come barter and trade with us.

1. Help reduce waste

Did you know that Quebec produces 13 million tonnes of waste each year? That’s one 25-tonne truck every minute! The Barter and Trade event is an opportunity to help reduce waste by putting one of the 4Rs—reuse— into practice.

2. Raise awareness of the issue

Why not encourage your friends and family to participate in the event? This could be a great opportunity to raise their awareness of the issue. Remember: reducing waste is a collective effort!

3. Declutter your home
This is a perfect excuse to clear out the clutter in your home. If you no longer need an item, ask the following questions:

  • Is it in good condition?
  • Could it be useful to someone else?

If both answers are yes, bring it to the event.

4. Make others happy
One person’s junk is another person’s treasure—just because you no longer have a use for something doesn’t mean it won’t be useful to someone else. And if any items don’t find a new owner at the event, they will be passed on to various local community organizations. So nothing goes to waste!

5. Take away fantastic finds for FREE
It’s amazing what you can find at this event: clothes, decorative items, books, board games, jewellery, electronics—something for everyone. How wonderful to take away a fantastic find without having to spend a single penny! One unwanted item brought in = one wanted item taken away!

Come barter and trade with us from October 21 to 23!
